Co-Ownership Information

Why do you offer co-ownerships with your dogs?
Since we breed to enhance and preserve our dogs' lines, all breedings are planned with the intention of
keeping a puppy from each litter. We want our little charms to have the best life has to offer!
Sometimes we don’t have the time and space to keep all the pups we would like to keep here in our
home, but we still want the best for them. To make this a win-win situation for our pups, our breeding
program and our puppy families, we sometimes find good, loving homes with which to co-own the
puppies/dogs.
What does this mean for you?
What this means is that you get a well bred puppy/dog to enjoy as a part of your family at no up front
cost to you! These pups are the creme de la creme, hand selected by us because we feel they are
excellent representatives of their breed. You also get to enjoy seeing your puppy carry on her lines,
and of course, you get to enjoy sweet puppy breath now and again, too!
Co-Ownerships for Females
She will live with you most of the time, except that she will come back here for two or three litters.
She would also come here to have her health clearances done and / or we'd make arrangements with
you to have the clearances done at your local vet. After passing health testing, she would come back
here for the breedings and to raise her litters. While she is with us in our home to have puppies, you’d be allowed to come during the whelping and visit mom and pups as often as you like. The puppies from her 1st two litters are the sole property of Charmin Lapwarmers. If we decide to breed a 3rd litter, we share the proceeds with the co-owner family (see contract for details). After her final litter you’d be responsible for having her spayed, and then upon proof of the spaying we’d sign off on the registration papers and she’d live out her life with you as your family pet. If she is a "show prospect," we’d love to have the possibility to show her at dog shows. You would get to keep all the ribbons that they earn as well as copies of photos taken during the showing.
Co-Ownerships for Males
We also work with males on co-ownerships and the agreement is very similar to what we do with girls, except that we ask that he is kept intact and made available to us as needed to breeding. With males, we generally only keep boys we hope to show, so we also ask that he be made available to us for the purpose of attending shows. We retain breeding rights for our own breeding program at no charge, and share outside stud fees with the co-owners (40 percent to the co-owner / 60 percent to Charmin Lapwarmers). Costs of health clearances and show costs for shows initiated by/entered by Charmin Lapwarmers are covered by Charmin Lapwarmers. If the co-owners wish to enter shows, attend classes, etc. with their dog they are welcome to do so at their own expense. All breedings must be approved / orchestrated by Charmin Lapwarmers.

Requirements for the Host Family
Most importantly we require that they family be able to provide a safe, loving, home. We also require that the puppy / dog be kept clean and well groomed (show prospects require daily brushing and weekly bathing). Co-owners must be willing and able to provide good quality food and regular veterinary care. Also, because we like to have access to them and for travel reasons, we ask that anyone doing this live within 300 miles of Brainerd, MN and be willing to meet us as needed "part way" as needed to fulfill this agreement. Finally, we ask that you keep in touch with us - we love news and photos!
